Dr. Swee-Hoon Chuah is a Professor of Behavioural Economics at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) and the inaugural Director of the Tasmanian Behavioural Lab. She holds a PhD in behavioural and experimental economics from the University of Nottingham, U.K. Her research expertise lies in cross-cultural behavioural economics, in particular the impact of cultural factors such as ethnicity, religion and social identity on socio-economic behaviour.
Since her secondment to the Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA) in Canberra in 2019, Swee-Hoon’s research and consultancy work has mainly focused on the application of behavioural science insights to public policy challenges. Swee-Hoon is currently working on various projects with government, NGO and industry partners to improve outcomes for different stakeholder groups. These projects involve designing behaviourally-informed interventions and conducting experiments (both in the lab and in the field) to test and evidence their effectiveness.
